You'll meet your instructor, walk around the airplane on a preflight inspection, then take off and fly for about an hour with your hands on the controls. Plan on about 90 minutes total, and the flight time can be logged toward your certificate.

Just a photo ID, sunglasses and a bottle of water. Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. Headsets are provided.

Not to start taking lessons. You'll need an FAA medical certificate and a student pilot certificate before you fly solo, so it's smart to get your medical scheduled early. I'll walk you through both.

Safety comes first. If the weather isn't right for your lesson, we'll reschedule at no charge or switch to a ground lesson instead.

It depends mostly on how often you fly. The FAA minimum is 40 hours, and most students finish in about 60 to 75. Flying two to three times a week, many students earn their certificate in three to six months.

Pay as you fly. You're billed after each lesson for aircraft and instruction time, with no big upfront deposit or block of hours to buy.
